How do I choose the appropriate Timpani head?
If you know the manufacturer and model of your timpani, please check the Evans Timpani reference chart. If you do not have this information, follow the instructions below (to be used in conjunction with the Timpani Head Reference Chart):Â
- Measure the outside diameter of the old head.
- Measure the counterhoop (metal hoop that holds the head on and applies tension) diameter from one side of the drum to the other (outside to outside).
- Subtract 1/4″ to 3/8″ from the total diameter (the drumhead needs to fit under the counterhoop, which has an outside wall that’s about 1/8″ thick).
Note:Â The measurement you are left with should come very close to one of our drumhead sizes on the reference chart (for example…a 28″ measurement equals our ET28 head).
